Typefaces/Typography: "Helvetica"
Helvetica is defined as:a typeface in which characters have no serifs. Other people define Helvetica as: beautiful, timeless, and something that just shouldn't be messed with.I just look at Helvetica as another font and before the movie, I didn't know what a "typeface" was. As a continued to watch the movie, I got the feel of how important typefaces were, especially this certain one. I mean, Helvetica was everywhere! On shirts, building, public buses, and roads. Everyday artists such as ones that work with magazines or graphic designs was an everyday must for them.To me, Helvetica is a classic. I agree with authors when the say that its' "neutral" or shouldn't have a meaning. I believe that Helvetica will always be here and it is a very timeless Typeface that shouldn't be messed with.

Paying Homage! Part 3
The picture to the right is a picture of my nieces and my baby sister. We had a BBQ about a week ago and I took this picture of them having their little social time! I thought it was so cute because you rarely see this. Their nature is very natural and playful because they aren't posing for the picture just like in Garry Winohard's collection, you can't even tell the camera was there.

Paying Homage! Part 2
Homage is defined as something done or given in acknowledgement or consideration of the worth of another. In these beginning weeks of Media Art, we have started paying Homage to well-known photographers of our choice. I chose to pay homage to Garry Winohard because he shot all types of social scenes and people in them, just like everyday life ! I thought I could have fun with this photographer because I am a very social person, always on the go and having fun with my everyday life, whether it's a party, shopping in Uptown, or having smoothies with the girls.
The picture to the left is a picture I took of my friends Downtown. We went swimming that day then walked around and grabbed a bite to eat, just like any other day. While this was more posed rather than natural, I like this photo because you can see the cars and hotels in the distance behind them, like any other day.

Garry Winogrand: Homage Part 1
Garry Winogrand was born in New York City in 1928. He shot street scenes and social scenes. Winogrand was known for his portrayal of America in the early 1960s and his interest in social issues of the day and in the role of media which was said to help him shape the human attitude and personality. He roamed the streets of New York with his Leica(camera) rapidly taking photographs using a prefocused wide angled lens. Often his lens would be tilted, leaving his photographs with a slanted result.Garry studied painting at City College of New York and later studied painting and photography at Columbia University in New York City in 1948. He also attended a photojournalism class taught by Alexey Brodovitch at the New School for Social Research in New York City in 1951. Much later, he taught courses in photography at the University of Texas, Austin and at the Art Institute of Chicago. His lessons were always remembered and reflected greatly on his students.
His photographs in New York of the Bronx Zoo and the Coney Island Aquarium were used in his book The Animals (1969). In 1980 he photographed the Fort Worth Fat Stock Show and Rodeo which became another large thematic undertaking and book.
Winogrand died of gall bladder cancer, in 1984 at age 56, leaving behind nearly 300,000 unedited and in many cases undeveloped images. Some of these have been exhibited posthumously and published in an exhibit catalog entitled Winogrand, Fragments from the Real World published by MOMA.
